Ιn our days most of us use the internet almost on a daily basis. But how many of us know how the internet works? Behind what we see on our screens there is the IP protocol on which the internet is built. Let's see what IP protocol is.

This protocol is routing of data across the different networks. The first version of the IP Protocol was Version 4 (IPv4), which is still in place all over the world. However, due to the continuous development of the Internet, addressing is not enough, so the next version of the protocol, version 6 (IPv6), which is active and used around the world, has been developed. Although they all welcomed the new version and some are using it, they do not like it because IP addresses are large and hard-to-remember.

Below we will see some of the features of IPv6.

  Greater range of addresses.
The current status with IPv4 is 232 and the future with IPv6 is 2128.

  Stateless address autoconfiguration (SLAAC).
Devices that connect to an IPv6 network can automatically assign themselves an IPv6 address.

Απλοποίηση της επεξεργασίας από τους δρομολογητές.
Η επικεφαλίδα και η προώθηση του πακέτου έχουν απλοποιηθεί στο IPv6.

  Mobility
No re-counting is required when moving entire subnetworks to other routers as IPv6 routers do it on their own.

  Address Representation
The 128 bits of an IPv6 address , are represented as 8 groups of 16 bits each. n example of this form of address is: 3ffe:1900:4545:3:200:f8ff:fe21:67cf.

One basic difference of Ipv4 and IPv6 is the way the addresses are displayed. The IP address is in binary format but can also be written in a format that can be read.
Thus, a 32-bit numeric address, which is IPv4, is written in decimal in 4 groups where the split is done with a dot. Each number can be 0 to 255. Such an address can be 9.120.13.210. On the other hand, IPv6 addresses are 128-bit numeric addresses where they are written in a hexadecimal format of 8 groups and separated by overhead. The form of such an address is: 3ffe: 1300: 6565: 8: 700: a8ab: cd31: 67b
